Our company WEBONE has completed the total transfer of its infrastructure to a new faster machine. More specifically, our machine and disks were replaced with the latest technology in the Server – Hosting part with NVMe SSD Datacenter Edition disks. So from 4 Cores (8 Threads) that we had we moved to 16 Cores (32 Threads), instead of mechanical disks we have NVME and it also has 128GB ECC RAM (from 64GB in the old one) which, although it rarely happens, corrects bit flips from cosmic radiation that otherwise, depending on where in the RAM they would happen, they could crash some application. 1) If the server ever crashes or the power goes out, there is no need to fsck the disk afterwards to fix any filesystem problems. fsck based on the amount of data to complete would have a downtime of 2-3 hours, so if a problem ever occurs we save that downtime. 2) Data compression, where with the same hardware, writing/reading to the disk is faster because it has to read/write less data. 3) The reason is that ZFS itself checks the checksums, i.e. if the data has been written correctly to the disk, we disable this check by MySQL, which in a test I did on an import of a 10GB .sql with the same hardware is 30% faster . So, in general, the rest of the queries run faster. 4) It supports snapshots where it is basically a way for backups that take up minimal space, so in the future instead of daily, weekly, monthly backup we will have 30 daily (ie for the previous 30 days + some earlier weekly).
